Willingness-to-pay survey for the implementation of electricity mini-grids in Haiti

By developing the use of mini-grids, the project aims to create a sustainable market for the private sector in order to reduce the country’s dependence on imported fossil fuels such as diesel and paraffin, create jobs, improve productivity and reduce poverty and gender inequality. Access to electricity should also be improved, particularly in rural areas.
The specific objectives of this survey are to gather precise and representative data on the socio-demographic characteristics of households and businesses, their use of electrical energy or the alternatives used in the event of a lack of access to energy, as well as their opinion on the quality of the services received, the expenditure made in relation to the income level of these players, and the willingness and ability of households to pay for quality electrical energy. Following analysis of the count and survey data, recommendations for potential mini-grid operators were formulated.

Type of service provided :

  • Collecting data on access to energy and mini-grids
  • Drawing up survey questionnaires
  • Drawing up the enumeration plan and sampling plan in collaboration with the client
  • Recruitment and training of interviewers
  • Deployment of enumeration (Sphinx software) to 2653 households and 565 businesses
  • Deployment of the survey (Sphinx software) to 384 households and 187 businesses
  • Analysis of georeferenced results (STATA and Qgis software)
  • Submission of survey reports, client feedback workshop
