Project management for the rural water project in the Lake and Hadjer Lamis regions

The Lake Chad region resilience and employment (RESTE) project, financed by the EU’s Emergency Trust Fund for Africa, aims to foster economic development and enhance the resilience of the populations affected by the violence perpetrated by the Islamic State in West Africa (ISWA, ex Boko Haram) in the Lake Chad area. The project’s water and sanitation component involves drilling boreholes, installing and rehabilitating handpumps, and creating mini-water supply systems and community WASH infrastructure to provide 600,000 beneficiaries in 400 villages with extended, sustainable and equitable access to water and sanitation.
Managing the project in close cooperation with the EUD, coordinating activities with the relevant ministries and other sector stakeholders, and evaluating the project’s impact on public health as an indicator of improvements in living conditions.

Type of service provide :

  • Conducting the technical, administrative and financial monitoring of all contracts related to the water & sanitation component, and supervising the service providers (delegated project manager, works contractors, NGOs in charge of community mobilization
  • Assisting the EU with final handover and facilitating field activities in conjunction with users’ associations and water point management committees;
  • Monitoring and evaluating project performance;
  • Coordinating with the relevant ministries and other stakeholders involved in the project’s water & sanitation component, as well as working with beneficiary community-based organizations;
  • Participating in sector coordination with NGOs, donors and international agencies (UNICEF, CICR, UNHCR, etc.) involved in WASH initiatives in the area around Lake Chad;
  • Setting up a public health data collection system and assessing the project’s impact on the population’s health.
