Support for the pilot project to divide the drinking water networks in the city of Mosul into sectors
After several years of conflict, the city of Mosul, which has a population of nearly 1.7 million, faces significant challenges in ensuring a reliable and efficient drinking water service. As part of the programme to modernise the city’s water services, the sectorisation of the distribution network has been identified as a priority in order to improve the management of unaccounted-for water and strengthen the network’s operational capacity.
Hydroconseil supported the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the Ninawa Water Directorate (DoW) in the design and implementation of four pilot District Metered Areas (DMAs). The aim was to demonstrate the effectiveness of this approach in improving knowledge of the network, optimising demand management and reducing water losses, whilst preparing for its wider roll-out across the entire city.
